Oh no!  You’ve wandered onto the UCSF Mission Bay campus and you don’t know what to do??  Well, you should take a moment to check out some art…because you’re pretty close to a pretty delightful Richard Serra piece.  Ballastby Serra was installed on the UCSF campus in 2005.  The work consists of two plates of steel that are about 50 ft. high by 15 ft. wide, and they divide the plaza into three equal intervals.

Personally, I really like Richard Serra.  His works are overwhelming, imposing, and architectural – which are all pluses to me!

Ballast is conveniently close to the UCSF/Mission Bay Muni light rail stop – and only a couple stops away from the new location of the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design – so you could kinda make a whole arty afternoon of it, couldn’t you?

What: Ballast by Richard Serra

Where: Gene Friend Way, between 3rd and 4th, on the UCSF Mission Bay Campus
